- Inspect Padlocks: Before initial use, visually inspect each padlock and key for any signs of damage or manufacturing defects. Ensure the shackle moves freely and the key turns smoothly in the cylinder.
- Su'ega Ki: Due to the "keyed alike" feature, any of the provided keys will open any of the six padlocks. Test each key with a padlock to confirm proper operation.
- Pulega autu: Store spare keys in a secure, accessible location. Consider labeling keys if they are part of a larger keying system, though for this "alike key" set, all keys are interchangeable.

- Tatala:
- Insert one of the provided keys into the keyway at the bottom of the padlock.
- Turn the key clockwise approximately 90 degrees.
- The shackle will spring open. Remove the key.
- Loka:
- Close the shackle by pushing it down firmly into the padlock body until it clicks.
- To ensure it is locked, gently pull on the shackle without the key inserted. If it does not open, it is securely locked.
- The padlock can be locked without the key.
Tausiga
- Lubrication: Periodically (e.g., every 6-12 months, or more frequently in harsh environments), apply a small amount of graphite powder or a silicone-based lubricant into the keyway and around the shackle mechanism. Avoid oil-based lubricants as they can attract dirt.
- Fa'amamaina: Wipe the padlock body with a clean, dry cloth to remove dirt and grime. For stubborn dirt, a mild soap solution can be used, followed by thorough drying.
- Asiasiga: Regularly check the padlock for any signs of wear, corrosion, or damage. Ensure the shackle operates smoothly and the key turns without excessive force.
- Teuina: When not in use, store padlocks in a dry environment to prevent moisture accumulation.
